Fire TV Stick From Amazon Rolls Out

Amazon has just announced that their new and powerful Fire TV streaming Stick is available for preorder at Amazon.com. The Fire TV Stick enables access to dozens of content streams, from their own portfolio, especially nice for Amazon Prime members, to Hulu, Netflix, Showtime, YouTube and to music on Pandora and iHeartRadio.

The Fire TV Stick is more powerful than Chromecast (for now, of course) and easier to use because the $39 dongle that plugs into a TV’s HDMI port comes bundled with a remote. Chromecast relies on a phone-installed app. The Fire TV Stick also offers voice search, like Chromecast, through a phone app, but using the device does not require a phone to control it, which leaves a hand free for hot and tasty popcorn while checking out last night’s Daily Show. There is an optional $29 remote with voice search built-in.

The guts of the Fire TV Stick include a dual-core processor versus Chromecast’s single-core, double Chromecast’s memory at 1 GB and 8 gigs of internal flash memory which is four times that of the Chromecast device.

So, is this more of Amazon attempting to dominate your media consumption preferences? Probably not, since Prime Membership isn’t required, except for viewing content for free for Prime Members. The Fire TV Stick is a powerful media streaming tool that’s cheap enough to hang on every HDMI-ported viewing device in your casa.

The Fire TV Stick is shipping for after-Christmas delivery
